Economic

For a community to be truly sustainable it must have 'internal' employment and the economic drivers brought about by having business and commercial activity as a vital element in a predominantly residential neighbourhood. Riverside's citizens will be serviced by up to 28,000sqm of commercial space, while its setting will attract local, national and international tourism.

Strategies for promoting business in Riverside include land-use guidelines which provide for a range of contemporary business opportunities and wide spread use of mixed-use zonings. High profile, 'flagship' businesses will be encouraged to relocate to the area, as well as river-based tourism and hospitality businesses.

The financial benefits of urban renewal projects are substantial. It is estimated that for every dollar spent developing the Riverside precinct, six dollars will flow back into the community through private sector investment.
