New Name and Inner City Community

For several years, the redevelopment of the eastern entrance to the CBD was called Gateway. Under this guise, the East Perth Redevelopment Authority undertook its major planning and stakeholder communication process, culminating in the release of the final Masterplan for the 40-hectare project in July 2004.

Since then, more attention has been focused on the new community that will call the area home and after much debate, it was agreed that ‘Riverside’ was more reflective of a new urban community consisting of thousands of new residents and workers who will live, work and play in this unique, new city quarter.

More than a new gateway to the CBD, Riverside, like the redevelopment of the Claisebrook Cove community on the banks of the Swan River in East Perth, will capture the beauty of its setting while capitalising on its proximity to the city and major sporting and entertainment venues such as the WACA and Gloucester Park.

Expected to be completed in 10-15 years, Riverside will be undertaken with clear environmental, social and economic objectives to create a sustainable urban quarter for all people.
