Public Consultation Process
In July 2002, the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, the Hon. Alannah MacTiernan MLA, officially launched the draft Riverside Masterplan and the commencement of a three-month public consultation program.
Testament to the success of the consultation program - one of the most comprehensive ever undertaken in Western Australia - was the more than 200 written submissions received from stakeholders and the community.
A further 40 submissions were received by e-mail, phone, and 'feed back' sheets utilised at public information events while 141,000 hits were received on the Riverside draft Masterplan website established specifically for the consultation program.
The high level of stakeholder involvement demonstrated a strong interest in the Riverside project. It was clear from the submissions received that generally there was endorsement of plans to rejuvenate the area and create a new urban entry to Perth.
Even those who disagreed with aspects of the plan generally expressed strong support for the process and the idea of a redeveloped entrance to Perth.
